Controlling the dishwasher with Smart Start
With our app, you can adjust the start of a compatible Home Connect dishwasher to match your solar power generation or cheap electricity prices.
There are two different settings: You activate Smart Start in the Home Connect app. The Smart Mode in our app determines whether our app optimizes the start for energy efficiency.
Prerequisites
- Your compatible dishwasher is online and set up in the Home Connect app.
- Smart Start is activated for the dishwasher in the Home Connect app. Ideally, do this before linking it with our app. Open Smart Start in the Home Connect app. Open the link on your smartphone with the Home Connect app installed and activate Smart Start for your dishwasher.
- You have linked your Home Connect account in our app via the device connection and granted access.
- For an optimized start, the Smart Mode of the dishwasher must be turned on in our app.
How Smart Start works
- Load your dishwasher and turn it on.
- Select the desired wash program on the dishwasher.
- The dishwasher displays the latest possible start time based on your settings in the Home Connect app.
- Press the start button to authorize the wash cycle for Smart Start.
- Depending on the selected operating mode, our app adjusts the start time to an energy-efficient time within the available time window.
Operating modes when Smart Mode is turned on
- Power Plan: Our app schedules the wash cycle using the available solar forecast and electricity prices. The goal is a cost-effective period within the start window specified by the dishwasher.
- Solar surplus control: Our app authorizes the start when there is sufficient solar surplus within the permitted start window. You can set the required surplus in the settings.
Starting without optimization: Turn off Smart Mode in our app
If you don't want any optimization for the next wash cycle, turn off the Smart Mode in our app before authorizing the wash cycle. Smart Start in the Home Connect app remains activated.
When the Power Plan operating mode is selected, our app will then set a new, unedited washing plan to the earliest possible start once. The check takes place every five minutes. If your dishwasher is already allowed to start and is reachable, it usually starts after a few minutes. A later earliest possible start from the Home Connect settings will be taken into account.
Turning off Smart Mode is not a general "Start now" command:
- If our app has already delayed the start, this time remains in place. Turning it off does not automatically bring it forward and does not undo the scheduling.
- If the wash program is already running, it continues to run. Turning it off does not stop the wash cycle.
- With solar surplus control, the authorization by our app during solar surplus no longer applies. The check every five minutes described above is part of the Power Plan operating mode.
Recognizing Smart Start
The display differs depending on the dishwasher model. Check the online user manual of your device in the Home Connect app to see how Smart Start is displayed for your model and what operation is intended.
Smart Start is missing or the dishwasher appears as off/unknown
First, check if Smart Start is activated for your dishwasher in the Home Connect app. Without activated Smart Start, the setup or the transmission of the wash plan to our app may be missing.
Open Smart Start for your dishwasher in the Home Connect app
If the link does not open, manually open the Home Connect app and go to the Smart Start settings of your dishwasher. Afterwards, check the connection to our app.
Connection and important notes
- Deactivation in Home Connect: If Smart Start for the dishwasher is completely deactivated in the Home Connect app, the Smart Start control via our app is no longer available. Reactivate Smart Start for renewed use and check the connection to our app. You may need to link your account again.
- Accessibility: Leave your dishwasher turned on and connected to the internet during scheduling and start authorization.
