What is this about?
You can connect your clever-PV account to Claude, the AI assistant by Anthropic. You can then ask Claude about your system right in the chat, for example “How much power is my PV system producing right now?”, or let Claude change settings for you.
You only need to set this up once on a computer at claude.ai. After that, the connection is automatically available in the Claude app on your phone as well.
What can Claude do with the connection?
- Look up: your devices and their status, current power of PV, grid, battery and consumers, energy data per day or month, solar and energy forecast, electricity prices and tariffs, and your automation settings.
- Control: for example Smart Mode on/off, target charging, charging mode, charging current and charge limit, boost, price control or device priority. Claude asks for your confirmation before every change.
Claude only sees the data of your own clever-PV account.
Requirements
- a clever-PV app account with an active paid subscription
- your email address and password for the clever-PV app; signing in with Google or Apple does not work here
- a Claude account; the free plan is enough. If you use Claude through your company (Team or Enterprise), only an admin can add the connector.
How to set up the connection
The red numbers in the images show you where to click. The screenshots show the German interface; the English labels are given in the text.
-
Open claude.ai on your computer and sign in. Click Customize on the left, Connectors at the top and Add on the right (1–3).
-
Select Add custom connector (4).
-
Enter clever-PV as the name (5) and https://api.clever-pv.com/connect/mcp as the MCP server URL (6). Click Continue (7).
-
Under Authentication, keep Sign in now selected (8).
-
Scroll down. Under OAuth client, select Use your own OAuth client (9) and enter connect-api-user as the OAuth client ID (10). Leave the client secret field empty. Click Add (11).
Important: Claude preselects “Use Claude's published identity” here. Sign-in does not work with that option – make sure you select Use your own OAuth client.
-
On the connector page, click Connect (12).
-
The clever-PV sign-in page opens. Enter the email address (13) and password (14) of your clever-PV app and click Sign in (Anmelden) (15). If you have two-factor authentication enabled, enter the code next.
-
Confirm with Allow access (Zugriff erlauben) (16).
-
Done: the clever-PV connector is connected. Under Tool permissions you can choose whether Claude asks before each lookup. By default, Claude asks for approval.
-
Start a new chat. Click + (18), then Connectors (19), and check that clever-PV is switched on (20).
-
Type your question (21) and send it (22).
Using it on your phone
Sign in to the Claude app with the same Claude account. The clever-PV connection is already there. In a chat, switch on clever-PV via + and Connectors, as in step 10.
Disconnecting
On claude.ai, open Customize › Connectors, select clever-PV and click Disconnect. Changing your clever-PV password also ends all connections.
Problems during setup?
- An error page appears after clicking Sign in: the connector is not set to use your own OAuth client. Remove the connector and add it again as described in step 5.
- Claude says the connection to clever-PV was started but not completed: sign-in took too long. Simply click Connect again.
- “Die Anmeldung ist derzeit nur mit einem clever-PV-Konto möglich.” (Sign-in is currently only possible with a clever-PV account.) Your account comes from a partner's app. These accounts are currently not supported.
- “Für die Verbindung ist ein aktives clever-PV-Abo nötig.” (An active clever-PV subscription is required.) You need a paid subscription for the connection.
- Claude suddenly asks you to sign in again: this happens, for example, after a password change or if you have not used the connection for a while. Click Connect on the connector again.
- A control action is refused with a note about your plan: this feature is not included in your current clever-PV plan.
